What is the role of a stylist? How do you get into styling for a living? And why do so many fashion students aspire to a job that involves so much physical work, endless admin and shoot stamina - not to mention the in-depth referencing, brand relationships and constant creative enthusiasm that the job demands?
In this episode of FUTURE NOW, i-D follows 3 stylists to find out exactly how to create a timeless image, runway show or fashion shoot.
In NYC, Sydney Rose Thomas pulls together a shoot featuring up-and-coming New York designers with her photographer friend and 'collaborating force', Deirdre Lewis. Elsewhere, Japan-born, London-based stylist Ai Kamoshita travels to Paris to work on a show during Fashion Week, and Lana Jay Lackey launches a zine with Rick Owens, the dark lord of luxury fashion.
Would you want to be a stylist? What makes you want to work in fashion?
